Persian Senneh (Sanandaj is another name for the village) carpet. Senneh is located in Kurdistan, west of Iran.
The carpet, though appearing rather new, is at least forty years old. This is a rare find given the size and the design.
Hand woven of wool on a cotton foundation, single wefted. The design is an overall Herati motif, with a lattice formed of little fish swimming around rosettes (described as ‘angles guarding truth’), and a Herati (sea turtle) boarder (sea turtles represent good luck in Persian mythology).
